Lazio have set their sights on Wolfsburg winger Josip Brekalo, who could arrive on loan with obligation to buy.
The Croatia international just turned 23 last month and is under contract with the German club until June 2023.
According to Sportitalia, Brekalo would be the ideal addition to Maurizio Sarri’s squad to work in the 4-3-3 formation.
The current team isn’t quite suited to his style of football, having been constructed for Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 tactics.
Brekalo has four goals in 27 senior caps for Croatia and plays primarily on the left side of attack, as he is right-footed.
During the 2020-21 season, he provided seven goals and four assists for Wolfsburg in 33 competitive games.
The asking price would be under €20m, but Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà maintains Wolfsburg would allow Brekalo to join Lazio on loan with obligation to buy.
That would allow the Aquile to spread the cost of the operation over more than one year.
His current salary is believed to be circa €2m per season.
