Lazio unveiled their ‘new’ kit, to be used against Milan on Saturday, which harks back to 1986-87 in Serie B.

The Biancocelesti will wear the shirt with a stylised blue eagle separating white and light blue sections, its wings stretching out on to the arms.

“This will be our home jersey to the end of the season,” said marketing chief Marco Canigiani.

Macron have been working on the kit for 10 months, trying to faithfully replicate the jersey that saw Lazio avoid relegation into Serie C despite a nine-point penalty for a match-fixing scandal.

They stayed up thanks to a three-way relegation play-off against Taranto and Campobasso in July 1987, seen as the starting point for a new era at the club.

“That team that fought back from -9 overcame huge obstacles and allowed the fans to continue supporting Lazio,” added director of communications Stefano De Martino.

“We showed footage of that team to the current players and they understood what it means to wear this jersey. They realised the importance of carrying these club colours.

“This jersey represented suffering, joy and pain for us fans and I hope it can help to unite us.”
