Lazio defender Alessio Romagnoli was forced off the pitch through injury just 39 minutes into the club’s pre-season friendly against Serie C side Triestina on Sunday evening.

Injury worries for Lazio’s Romagnoli

The former Roma and Milan centre-back appeared to be struggling just after the half-hour mark and he was forced to call it a day just a few minutes shy of the half-time interval.

Initial reports suggest that it is likely to be an issue with his adductor muscle, although more specific details are expected to emerge in due course.

New Biancocelesti boss Marco Baroni called for 26-year-old Nicolo Casale to replace Romagnoli at the back of the Lazio back line.

Romagnoli has established himself as a crucial member of Lazio’s defensive unit since his arrival in 2022, making 34 top flight appearances in his first season, before registering a further 29 last term.

He played in virtually every Serie A match he was available for last season, missing six matches through a calf issue in the winter, two games through suspension and one further game through injury, against Salernitana in April.

Lazio will next be in action against Hansa Rostock for their fourth pre-season friendly of the summer on July 27.
