Lazio have reportedly locked down Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Marcos Antonio in a deal worth €8m plus bonuses.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the two clubs exchanged the paperwork this afternoon and the transfer is effectively complete.

The Aquile are expected to pay €8m plus another €2m in add-ons for the Brazilian, who turns 22 later this month.

He only joined Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk in February 2019 from Estoril Praia for €3.5m and was under contract until June 2025.

However, as the invasion of Ukraine stopped any opportunity to play professional football, Shakhtar Donetsk are trying to sell their players.

Marcos Antonio had scored three goals and provided one assist in 28 games under coach Roberto De Zerbi this season.

Juventus and Manchester United had also been linked with the Brazilian.

Lazio see him as the suitable replacement for Lucas Leiva, who has been released as a free agent at the end of his contract.
