A Football Italia poll reveals 58 per cent of Lazio fans don’t want Stefan de Vrij to face Inter on the final day.

The Dutch centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season, and it was reported this week that the Nerazzurri have deposited his contract with the Lega Serie A.

Week 38 sees the Biancocelesti face Luciano Spalletti’s side at the Stadio Olimpico, in what could effectively be a Champions League play-off.

De Vrij would therefore be attempting to prevent his future club from reaching the top four.

In a poll of Football Italia readers which garnered 830 votes, 58 per cent of respondents said they didn’t want the defender to play in Week 38.

“De Vrij showed he's a real professional so I don't think playing vs Inter (his future club) will be a problem,” said Darko.

“He will give 100 per cent for Lazio like he always did and plus this is his last game so he will really try to give his best. I believe in De Vrij's loyalty to Lazio and his professionalism, he should play of course, he is a big part of Lazio.”

Others, however, felt that while De Vrij’s professionalism is not in question, the situation could create controversy.

“A simple slip from him has the potential of handing Inter the final CL spot,” Zohth pointed out, while Falade Oluwafemi Emmanuel asked “What if he doesn't have any biased intention but makes a mistake for which people stone him?”
