Lazio fans showed their support for Ciro Immobile after reports he will retire from international duty, assuring they are his Italy.

The striker has been made the scapegoat by many in the media following the failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

His misses in the 1-0 play-off defeat to North Macedonia saw him bitterly criticised and there have been calls for Immobile to quit the Nazionale for good.

It’s time for Immobile to retire from international duty

Lazio supporters tried to reassure the centre-forward with a banner at the Stadio Olimpico during today’s Serie A match against Sassuolo.

‘Ciro, we are your Lazionale,’ read the message in the Curva Nord.

This was a pun combining Lazio with the Italian name for the national team, Nazionale.

Immobile is the all-time top scorer in the history of Lazio with 176 goals in 253 competitive games.

On the other hand, he has never been able to replicate that kind of form for Italy, managing 15 goals in 55 senior caps.

His last goal for the Azzurri was against Switzerland on June 16, 2021, during the EURO 2020 group phase.

  1. Strange enough it was Berardi that missed the easier chances.

Immobile had a great chance in the 1st Half and put a hard shot on net that was Saved.

  2. Dear Immobile

Please if by some miracle you are called up again, PLEASE stay as far away as possible and decline the offer of playing for Italy.

For all our sakes please just stay at home.

    Kind regards

  3. Stop being so harsh on him. He is amazing and is a good player. I feel bad for him that he is constantly made the scapegoat. He actually played well against North Macedonia just that he couldn’t get any of hi strong shots past the goalie. Immobile, ignore them and keep playing strongly.

  4. Raspadori…that’s who you deserve! No trophies for Italy for 40 years next to come!

  5. To me Insigne is the bigger loser… I’ve never liked him.. shows up once in a while… then disappears.. Funny how the three Neapolitans on this team disappointed Italy.
