Lazio ultras accosted Ciro Immobile and his family in the street this week, but more aimed insults online after replacement Taty Castellanos scored with his first touch against Frosinone.

The captain has been increasingly targeted by the fans over the last few months, whereas he had until recently been their hero for his consistent goal-scoring exploits.

The resignation of Maurizio Sarri on Tuesday sparked angry reactions and conspiracy theories about the cause behind it, not helped when President Claudio Lotito said the coach had been “betrayed” by certain members of his squad.

Immobile and his family were accosted by thugs in the street, with very little support from President Lotito, who replied: “So what? I have been under police guard for the last 20 years. I get thousands of death threats a day.”

The insults poured in online during this evening’s Serie A trip to Frosinone, as Immobile wasted a couple of clear opportunities.

He made way for Castellanos, who promptly scored with his very first touch, nodding in a Luis Alberto free kick.

“They weren’t playing against Sarri. They were playing against Immobile,” wrote one supporter.

“Castellanos did more in 10 minutes than Immobile in an entire season,” added another.

“Immobile 5 chances, 0 goals. Taty 1 touch, 1 goal.”
