Lazio face uphill battle for Sunderland winger Clarke

Lazio are still interested in signing winger Jack Clarke, but an improved offer will be needed to convince Sunderland of a deal.

As is often the case, the Biancocelesti have left it late to carry out any business in the January transfer window, not picking up any reinforcements in the first four weeks of the market. Their only noteworthy work this month was the loan of Toma Basic to Salernitana.

In the closing stages of this transfer window, Lazio have finally sprung to life and have started to look for the right winger to bolster Maurizio Sarri’s squad, wanting some cover for Mattia Zaccagni, who dealt with a few minor injuries in the first half of the season.

As detailed by Gianluca Di Marzio, Sunderland rejected Lazio’s €16m offer for Clarke, setting a €20m price tag on the English winger, who is considered the ideal reinforcement for Sarri’s squad.

With just days left in the January transfer window, the Biancocelesti will need to move fast if they want to convince the Black Cats of a deal.
