Lazio announce their ‘great satisfaction’ after being allowed to compete in next season’s Champions League.

The Aquile qualified for the competition by finishing third in Serie A, but there were some doubts over whether they’d be allowed to enter.

Federbet had warned that the Biancocelesti could be excluded over a match-fixing investigation concerning a 2011 match, but UEFA today approved their entry.

“We express great satisfaction over this achievement,” a statement on the club’s official website announced.

“This represents the culmination of the efforts of everyone – the club, the Coach, the staff, the players, the fans – efforts which have produced results which we deservedly won on the pitch.

“It is with pride then, that we are going to bring the Lazio colours over the Italian border, the eagle will finally fly in the skies of Europe.”

The eagle is the symbol of Lazio, the source of their “Aquile” nickname.
