Lazio pre-season preparations have been hit by injury, as defender Mario Gila sustained a fractured toe.

The training only just started this week and already there was a setback for new coach Marco Baroni.

A formal statement from the club announced that Gila felt pain during a training session and underwent tests that showed a fracture to the little toe on his left foot.

More treatment and examinations will be performed to clarify how long he will be out for.

The centre-back turns 24 next month and is a product of the Real Madrid youth academy, sold to Lazio for €6m in the summer of 2022.

He made 41 appearances for the Biancocelesti in all competition.
