Medical tests have confirmed that an injury forced Manuel Lazzari to withdraw from the Azzurri training camp in Coverciano last week.

The 28-year-old Italian full back unexpectedly pulled out of the training camp alongside Biancocelesti teammate Mattia Zaccagni, leading many to suggest that the pair were simply looking to go on holiday early. Lazio responded by suggesting that an injury was to blame for both, something which didn’t convince some.

As announced by Lazio, medical tests carried out today confirmed that Lazzari has suffered an acute groin injury, suffered during his last training session in Coverciano. He’ll now undergo a recovery programme.

The 28-year-old Lazzari was a core part of Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio squad this season, making 39 appearances for a total of 2121 minutes. He initially struggled with the switch to a back four but eventually he adapted and began to shine playing as a right back, earning a call-up to the national team.

  1. He could be a very important player but he keeps getting injured.

He might be the fastest player in serie A and for the national team would create many problems for opposing teams
