Lazio are on the verge of signing Brazilian defender Xandao after his agent flew in for final talks.
The Desportivo Brasil centre-back has been pin-pointed as a key reinforcement for Vladimir Petkovic’s side.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, Xandao’s agent Marcio Rivellino is en route to Rome for negotiations.
It is believed Traffic, the company that owns Xandao’s contract, is prepared to sell for around €3m.
The 24-year-old would be particularly useful for Lazio, as he already has an Italian passport and therefore will not take up a non-EU place.
Xandao is currently training with Sporting Lisbon, but the Portuguese side cannot afford to take up their option.
He hit headlines last season when scoring in the Europa League against Manchester City with a backheel flick.
The alternative to Xandao would be fellow Brazilian Humberto River, currently captain of Atletico Mineiro, but he’d cost closer to €7m.
Meanwhile, Lazio are in talks to loan Pasquale Foggia and goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo to Pescara.
