Lazio president Claudio Lotito described Sergej Milinković-Savić as “our Paulo Dybala” as they look set to keep hold of the Serbia midfielder.

Despite his impressive performances in recent years, no club appears to have been willing to meet Lotito’s valuation for the 27-year-old he appears to be entering his eighth season with the club.

Speaking to Il Messaggero, Lotito said: “Yes, [ Milinković-Savić is] our Dybala. Keeping hold of him for the eighth season is the most important signing in Serie A.”

Many are predicting big things for Roma this season following their signing of Argentina forward Dybala on a free transfer.

Despite winning the Europa Conference League last term, Roma finished below Lazio in Serie A in sixth place – and Lotito said there is nothing for his side to feel inferior about.

He added: “We have created a great team. So we have nothing to be envious about from the other side.”

Meanwhile, Lotito aimed a dig at Lazio fans, calling on more supporters to get season tickets.

He said: “We have created a great Lazio team, now the rest is down to you. When will you get your season tickets? Roma have 36,000 and we only [have] 8,500.”

Lazio have so far recruited defenders Nicolò Casale and Alesso Romagnoli, midfielder Marcos Antônio as well as goalkeeper Luís Maximiano, while more incomings are expected.
