Bayer Leverkusen Coach Roger Schmidt says ‘Lazio can compensate’ for the absence of Lucas Biglia and Miroslav Klose.

Bayer Leverkusen Coach Roger Schmidt says ‘Lazio can compensate’ for the absence of Lucas Biglia and Miroslav Klose.

The Biancocelesti hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg of the Champions League play-off, but will be without their captain and main striker for the return leg in Germany.

“It’s not an advantage for us,” Schmidt insisted, when asked about Klose and Biglia in his pre-match Press conference.

“Last season Lazio beat Napoli without those players. Biglia is important, but we’ve also got players out. Lazio can compensate, it won’t be a determining factor.”

Schmidt then turned his attention to the match itself, and doesn’t expect it to be much different from the first leg.

“The first leg went in Lazio’s favour, that lead might affect how they set-up tactically, but a one goal advantage isn’t going to radically change the strategy.

“The Biancocelesti, as well as having quality in defence, are very quick in attack. We’ll play our game like always, pressing them, and trying to attack while also being aware of the defence.

“We’re ready, it will be a good game in front of our fans.

“We’ll focus on our strengths, and what has made us strong in the past year. We have to train the way we’re going to play.

“You can come up with tactics before the match, but you have to be able to react to what’s happening on the pitch, so we’ll try to have good reactions.

“We’re thinking about regaining our confidence and imposing our game, that’s the best approach.

“Any concern about not scoring [in Rome] would only arise if we didn’t make chances. We did create chances, but we struggled to finish.

“Tomorrow it’s important to score, we’ll have to be precise to score a goal, and I know that my team will be determined.”
