Igor Tudor has arrived to sign the 18-month contract with Lazio after Maurizio Sarri tended his resignation last week.

The club found itself stunned and in need of a change of direction following Sarri’s decision to walk away on Tuesday afternoon.

It was the result of four consecutive defeats, including a Champions League Round of 16 exit to Bayern Munich.

Sarri’s assistant manager Giovanni Martusciello was at the helm as a caretaker for Saturday’s Serie A victory away to Frosinone, but it was already known that Tudor was on his way.

The Croatian coach landed in Rome this evening and was pictured holding a Lazio scarf at the airport, published on the official club social media channels.

Although Tudor’s appointment was formally announced, there is no confirmation of the contract details.

It is expected to be until June 2025 with an option to extend for another season.

Tudor turns 46 next month and his most recent role was on the bench of Olympique Marseille, while before that he worked at Verona, Hajduk Split, Udinese, Galatasaray, Karabukspor and PAOK Salonika.

He also had experiences as assistant manager to Igor Stimac for the Croatia national team and Andrea Pirlo at Juventus in 2020-21.
