According to TNT Sports in Argentina, Lazio are meeting with River Plate representatives for left-back Fabrizio Angileri, but face competition from Olympique Marseille.
The report from the television station this afternoon suggests negotiations are progressing at a fairly rapid pace and Angileri would be more than happy to take the next step of his career in Europe.
Although primarily a left-back, the 27-year-old can also play in a more advanced wide midfield role on the left or right.
He has an Italian passport, which will make registering him far simpler, but spent his entire career in Argentina with Godoy Cruz and River Plate.
So far in this season, Angileri has contributed three goals and eight assists in 25 competitive games for River Plate.
He had already been linked with Lazio earlier in the summer, but it was assumed they’d dropped this interest after snapping up Elseid Hysaj on a free transfer from Napoli.
Olympique Marseille and Celta Vigo are also thought to be tracking his progress and proposing a European transfer for the Argentine.
