Olivier Giroud is reportedly furious at “disrespectful” Inter for dropping their pursuit of the Chelsea striker, while Lazio lay the groundwork for a free transfer.

The forward was meant to be joining Inter for weeks, having agreed personal terms and seeking a reunion with his former Stamford Bridge boss Antonio Conte.

However, as Christian Eriksen cost more than expected and they failed to sell Matias Vecino for €20m, the Nerazzurri decided not to bring in Giroud.

However, as Christian Eriksen cost more than expected and they failed to sell Matias Vecino for €20m, the Nerazzurri decided not to bring in Giroud.

According to French radio RMC Sport, sources close to Giroud found Inter’s behaviour “very disrespectful. The player was behaving in an exemplary fashion and gave his priority to Inter.”

Lazio also flew in with director of sport Igli Tare on Friday to make his case, but Chelsea refused to sell for €5m without finding a suitable replacement.

According to multiple Italian newspapers, Tare laid the groundwork for Lazio to become the favourites when Giroud becomes a free agent in July.
