Borussia Monchengladbach winger Valentino Lazaro insists he has a good relationship with Antonio Conte and is ‘looking forward to playing against’ parent club Inter.

The Austria international joined Gladbach on loan with option to buy from Inter last summer, but he will miss tonight’s Champions League clash through injury.

“It will be a special game for me,” he told InterNews.it. “I am back and I feel good, but I am not yet 100% fit and will not be there for the first game in Milan. I can’t wait for the return leg against my friends from Inter in Germany.

“I watched the Milan derby and Inter will try to win against us. They are the favourites, but we will certainly do our best to be competitive.“

Lazaro reveals he was asked to act as ‘spy’ by Marco Rose ahead of tonight’s match.

“The coach asked me about Conte’s playing style and asked me questions about some Inter players.

“I told him what I thought, but he knows the quality of Inter. It will be a tough game for our team.

“I have a very good relationship with Conte and I hope that Inter will succeed with him. In the summer we spoke and I told the club that I needed to play more.”

Lazaro played on loan at Newcastle last season and explained why he didn’t stay with the Magpies.

“After the stop break for the Coronavirus I was told that being on loan I wouldn’t have chances to play much. That’s why I talked to my agent and decided to look for a new loan.”
