It is reported that Lazio want to tie up a deal for Genoa’s Diego Laxalt before the start of the World Cup.

The attacking-midfielder is part of the Uruguay squad for the tournament in Russia and is valued at €15m by his current club.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Biancocelesti, who finished fifth in Serie A this season, are reluctant to pay more that €10m to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.

However, their hand may be forced by the World Cup’s imminent start.

According to the Italian daily, the Rome club are eager to do the deal before the start of the tournament in order to avoid the risk of a bidding war should Laxalt impress in Russia.

It is believed a compromise could be reached between the clubs if Lazio were to offer additional bonuses or incentives to Genoa as part of the terms of the deal.

Laxalt’s agent has already claimed in recent days that his client will definitely be leaving Marassi this summer.
