Future Inter signing Diego Laxalt is convinced that the Nerazzurri will be fighting for honours following the appointment of Walter Mazzarri as boss.

The Uruguayan, 20, is expected to join the Nerazzurri this summer from present club Defensor following a campaign in which the Italian outfit ended Serie A in ninth.

“Bad seasons can happen,” the midfielder told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “But Inter were born to win. And I want to win a lot with Inter.

“I will look to earn the faith of the new Coach, someone who built a great Napoli and turned Edinson Cavani into a champion.

“He is certainly a talented tactician.”

Laxalt is also happy that he will have the opportunity to play alongside some stars of the past and the future.

“I’ll look to learn by taking advice from Javier Zanetti and Esteban Cambiasso,” continued the South American.

“But the most fascinating idea I have is playing alongside Mateo Kovacic. I’ve admired him on television.

“He is always in the right place at the right time and his passes are remote controlled. We’ll understand each other immediately.”

Croatian Kovacic, 19, joined the Nerazzurri in January from Dinamo Kovacic for an initial fee of around €11m.
