Ezequiel Lavezzi has bid a fond farewell to Napoli and its supporters, in a long letter published on his official website.

The Argentine international, who spent the last five seasons on the books of the Partenopei, was unveiled today as a Paris Saint-Germain player, after completing a €30m transfer.

“It’s been a truly unique and unforgettable five years. Five years that have marked me with fire, for life,” began the note from the footballer.”

“When in July 2007 my move to Napoli was confirmed, I knew that the challenge would be tough and fascinating. I was coming to the city, the team, where Diego Armando Maradona had left an indelible mark…I felt a huge responsibility.”

The letter continues, with the 27-year-old talking of his close relationship with the Vesuviani’s supporters and his recent adventures with Napoli in Serie A, the Champions League and Coppa Italia, before concluding with a hint at a possible return in the future.

“In football as is in life, you never know what your destiny will be. The door for a possible return will always be open for me and, if not as a player, I will return again to remember the so many moment of happiness and joy.

“‘Nothing is forever’, say some philosophers, and perhaps, unfortunately, they are right. But, I will try to deny them because of you, Neapolitan friends, you will always be in my heart.”
