Lautaro Martinez admits it is ‘just like me to miss the easier goals and score almost by accident,’ but finally broke his Inter drought against Benevento.
It was the ideal start for the Nerazzurri, as Riccardo Improta accidentally deflected a Christian Eriksen free kick into his own net after seven minutes.
Lautaro Martinez then finally ended his six-game goal drought by pouncing on a lucky ricochet, before Romelu Lukaku bagged a brace for the 4-0 win.

“It was a tough game in the first half, we benefited from an own goal, but then we controlled it well and scored the goals in the second half that we wasted before the break! We got them eventually,” Toro told DAZN.
“It’s just like me, I don’t score the easier goals and I score one that was almost by accident! Anyway, I’m happy when Inter win and we have to keep going like this.
“I am a striker, it’s my job to score goals, but I’ve always said that I am here to work for the team. That is where I must improve, it’s what got me here and I want to keep doing better for Inter.”
Lautaro was asked if teammate Lukaku was still upset after the Coppa Italia quarter-final with Milan and row with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“He is important for us and even with a bad mood, he still scored two goals. We work for the team and we are happy when Inter win. If we score as well, that’s even better!"
The Argentina international is reportedly very close to signing a new contract at San Siro.
“I am very happy here, my agents are working with me, the club and coach have faith in me, so everything off the pitch can be resolved.”
