Lautaro Martinez was Man of the Match with a brace to beat Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia Final, retaining the trophy. ‘This is what the sport is about, winning.’
It was an exhilarating Coppa Italia Final at the Stadio Olimpico, as Nico Gonzalez had opened the scoring within three minutes for the Viola.
However, Lautaro Martinez struck twice before half-time to turn it around, his 100th and 101st goals in the Inter jersey, for the 2-1 victory on the night in Rome.
“In all honesty, I am moved, because for a few years we have been bringing trophies to this great club and we must continue like this. I am very happy,” Lautaro Martinez told Mediaset.
“I wanted to lift another Cup, this is what the sport is about, winning. We started badly for the first 15 minutes, but then found the right approach and were able to turn it around. I am very happy to bring this trophy back to Milan, or rather keep it there, seeing as that’s where it was last year.”
The Nerazzurri won the Coppa Italia last season, beating Juventus in extra time.
“I want to keep giving my contribution for Inter, because that is what matters.”
Inter have also retained the Supercoppa Italiana and still have to face Manchester City in the Champions League Final in Istanbul on June 10.
It has already been an astonishing 2022-23 campaign for Lautaro Martinez, who also won the World Cup with Argentina in Qatar in December, so he cannot seem to stop picking up silverware at the moment.
