Lautaro Martinez hails teammate Marcus Thuram, reveals they ‘studied’ Juventus and assures ‘there is nothing to worry about’ over his Inter contract.

The Nerazzurri climbed to four points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand thanks to this evening’s 1-0 win over Juve.

It was decided by a Federico Gatti own goal, as the Nicolò Barella cross went past both Benjamin Pavard and Thuram to bounce off the defender’s stomach.

“Today was a big opportunity for our journey,” Lautaro Martinez told DAZN and Sky Sport Italia.

“We had a great performance, were aggressive in winning back the ball and caused Juve a lot of problems, even though they sat very deep trying to go on the counter.

“We studied many of their videos and knew what to expect.”

The Argentina international is going from strength to strength, winning the World Cup in Qatar in December 2022 and then reaching the Champions League Final with Inter.

He has also become the captain of his club and an icon for the fans.

“Having that armband on is certainly extra responsibility, but I have always given my best for Inter and tried to pass on those values to my teammates. I learned so much from my father when I was young and now I am a father too.

“We created a great atmosphere in the locker room, I am happy to be here, to grow and play with them, to target those objectives.”

That includes the partnership with Thuram, which seems to have given Lautaro a new side to his game compared to Romelu Lukaku or Edin Dzeko.

“Thuram is an incredible striker, he is so complete and works really hard even in training. We are very happy to have him in the squad, he is an important player for our club.”

His contract extension talks have been dragging on for months and director Beppe Marotta confirmed they had taken a bit of a break due to the packed schedule in January.

“We are working, it is not easy, but we are on the right track and trying to reach an agreement,” replied the striker.

“I am concentrated on the pitch. I have two years left on the current contract, I am happy at Inter and in Milan, just like my family.

“There is nothing to worry about, we just need to talk it out together.”
