Lautaro Martinez came off the bench for Argentina against France, meaning there has been an Inter player in every World Cup Final since 1982.

The Nerazzurri striker had originally been first choice upfront for La Seleccion, but was dropped in favour of Julian Alvarez as the tournament went on.

Ever since the 1982 World Cup in Spain, there has been both a representative of Inter and of Bayern Munich featuring in the World Cup and that run continues going into the next edition in the USA, Mexico and Canada in 2026.

The German club was covered by Dayot Upamecano and Kingsley Coman in the France jersey, but Lautaro Martinez and Inter had to wait until extra time for this opportunity.

Lautaro replaced Julian Alvarez at the 102nd minute, coming on along with Juventus midfielder Leandro Paredes.

Argentina had been leading 2-0 until the 79th minute, when Kylian Mbappé scored twice in 97 seconds to get France back on level terms.
