Lautaro Martinez confirms he apologised to the Inter supporters for his recent misses after sealing a 3-2 win over Napoli. ‘This is my family.’

The centre-forward got the winning goal during a thriller at San Siro, which saw Piotr Zielinski originally give Napoli the lead before turning it around through Hakan Calhanoglu, Ivan Perisic and Lautaro Martinez.

“It was a very important match for us, a head-to-head with the leaders and we deserved more from previous games, so we had to prove again that we are on the right track,” the Argentina international told DAZN.

“Sometimes the results don’t go our way, but the team played with intensity and character today, bringing home three important points.”

Lautaro Martinez seemed to wave an apology to the fans in the Curva after his goal, still smarting from the saved penalty in the 1-1 derby with rivals Milan.

“I apologised because mistakes can happen. I was without a goal in almost a month. As I said, I always try to work for Inter, it doesn’t matter if I don’t score, it matters if Inter don’t win. This is my family and it’s a wonderful emotion to see us win.”

Tucu Correa ran from his own penalty area to spark the counter-attack and set up Lautaro Martinez for the goal.

“Correa works hard, he promised to help me score today and he provided an assist. We tried a special celebration, I hope you got it!

“We are the reigning champions, but we must keep growing, prove we can get stronger and go forward in every game.”
