Lautaro Martinez has demanded a salary out of reach for Inter, who are hoping to find an agreement as negotiations continue.

The 26-year-old Argentinian striker, who was recently named the Serie A MVP for the 2023-24 season after helping to guide the club to the Scudetto with his 24 league goals, has just over two years left on his current contract with the Nerazzurri.

Inter are in a state of flux ahead of the summer, having recently switched owners from Suning to US fund Oaktree following the failure to pay back the circa €395m in debts owed following the loan taken out back in May 2021.

Lautaro Martinez contract situation

Transfer market pundit Matteo Moretto provided an update on Inter’s contract negotiations with Lautaro Martinez via Caught Offside.

The Argentinian striker’s entourage have requested a salary that’s out of reach for the Nerazzurri considering their current situation, which allows them to pay a maximum of €10m net per season, including bonuses.

The ball now rests in Lautaro Martinez’s court, as he needs to decide whether to accept an offer in that region or not.

  1. Let’s state some facts. Lautaro scored his 23 league goals in 24 matches and since then he was silent. Only 1 goal in the remaining 9 matches and even that one was against Frosinone.
