Lautaro Martinez admits Argentina’s World Cup victory inspired him and Inter on their path to the Champions League Final: ‘Teams’ unity is the most important thing.’
The Argentinean striker scored the winner in a 1-0 win against Milan on Tuesday and was named Man of The Match.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle, El Toro said: “Before the game, I told the guys: ‘We’ve done a great job.’ The team’s unity is the most important thing. I saw it at the World Cup. If the group is united and goes in the same direction, things become easier.
“Inter deserve to win these nights. We always work to improve and I want to give my best,” he continued.
“After the World Cup, we knew we had another chance to reach the Final and here we are. Whoever the opponent is, it will be the last game, we have arrived here and want to go as high as possible.
Lautaro won the World Cup with Argentina in December and could now become European champion with the Nerazzurri.
“It would be a dream, I don’t even want to think about it,” the striker told SportMediaset.
“I thank my family who help me play this sport every day, reaching the Champions League Final is a dream.”
Lautaro added that he doesn’t think tonight’s victory over city rivals Milan is revenge after last year’s Serie A title won by the Rossoneri.
“That is the past, we started the new season and today we’ve reached a very important target for each of these players.”
Lautaro, 25, has scored 25 goals in 52 games this season and his contract at the Stadio Meazza expires in June 2026.
Inter will meet Real Madrid or Manchester City in the Champions League Final in Istanbul on June 10. It will be the sixth Champions League Final in the Nerazzurri’s history who have previously lifted the trophy three times, the last one in 2010.
