Inter star Lautaro Martinez insists he was right not to pass the ball to either Marcelo Brozovic or Romelu Lukaku during the Champions League Final but often watches videos of that game: ‘Pep Guardiola was already on the ground…’

The Nerazzurri striker spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about last season, mainly focusing on the Champions League Final, lost against Manchester City this past June.

“We dropped points in Serie A, but we have to restart from the Champions League Final,” he said.

“That game and that competition have made us grow so much. We made a good impression and we sent a signal to the world.”

Lautaro had a chance in the second half, but ignored Brozovic and Lukaku inside the box, trying to beat Ederson from a tight angle. The Argentinean confirmed having no regrets about his choice.

“No, I’m okay with myself. I did the right thing,” he said.

“Somebody says I should have passed the ball to Brozovic or Lukaku. It’s a decision I took in that second and it was the right one. I’ve watched the videos many times, with Guardiola already on the ground. It’s not the only chance we had in the game and I bring inside me the good things we did that night.”

During his interview with Gazzetta, Lautaro also confirmed Romelu Lukaku didn’t pick up the phone when he and other ex-Inter teammates tried to call him to see if he wanted to return to the Stadio Meazza from Chelsea. El Toro also said he is proud to wear Inter’s captain armband for 2023-24.
