Alejandro Camano, the agent of star striker Lautaro Martinez, confirmed that contract talks with Inter ‘are progressing well’ as an agreement nears.

The 26-year-old Argentinian forward has continued to play a talismanic role for the Nerazzurri this term, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists across 21 appearances in Serie A and the Champions League.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta recently suggested that Lautaro was almost ready to sign his new long-term contract, which is expected to raise his salary to over €10m net per season including add-ons, reflective of his star status at the club.

Speaking to Numero Diez via Calciomercato.com, Camano was first asked if he’d be meeting with Inter in the coming weeks to finalise Lautaro’s new contract.

“I can’t give you this information specifically, because we are talking every day with, I can tell you that we have a spectacular relationship with the club.

“I have had a relationship with the Nerazzurri for years, because I am Hector Ceper’s agent and therefore throughout my life I have spoken a lot with Inter. Now I have a beautiful relationship with all the management.

“Lautaro Martinez is very happy to be in Milan, however, for now, we have appointments, we talk about everything, the relationship is very lively. But I can’t tell you ‘I’m going tomorrow’, because for now we are talking day after day and things are progressing well.

“What I can tell you for now is this: Lautaro is very happy, and we have to work so that Lautaro’s future is linked to that of Inter. But, for now, peace of mind.”

He then discussed Lautaro’s mood after his positive 2023.

“Lautaro is 26 years old and is in a moment of great happiness. He has had his second child. He has a large and beautiful family. Today the only thing he thinks about is giving his all heart to this team.

“And I work for this. I work so that with Inter we arrive in the best situation. We are in a great moment.”

Inter have been hard at work freshening up the contracts of a number of players in the squad, ranging from Matteo Darmian and Federico Dimarco to Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Lautaro.
