After Hakan Calhanoglu and Gigio Donnarumma left Milan when their contracts expired, many clubs are desperate to renew with their stars. Football Italia takes a look at some of the Serie A stars on contracts expiring in June 2022.

Reports in Italy reveal Juventus are working to renew with Paulo Dybala, Napoli are struggling to reach an agreement with Lorenzo Insigne and that Milan are negotiating with Franck Kessie.

The three players are expected to renew with their respective clubs, but until they have penned a new deal, their future is uncertain.

Reports have emerged regarding a possible move on a free transfer for Napoli captain and Italy international Lorenzo Insigne next summer, with Inter allegedly considering making a move when he can discuss with other clubs in January.

Take a look at the top 10 stars in Serie A on expiring contracts in 2022.

Franck Kessie (Milan) – The Rossoneri midfielder said he wants to stay with the club and the Rossoneri fans are begging him to renew, but the two parties still haven’t reached an agreement beyond next summer. The Milan directors fear a similar situation as last season, when they lost two big profiles on free transfers. Simon Kjaer is another star who is expected to renew with the Rossoneri this season. Alessio Romagnoli’s deal expires in 2022 too, while veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic naturally continued one a one-year contract.

Paulo Dybala (Juventus) – The Bianconeri are scheduled to meet yet again with the player’s representatives, as the Argentine’s agent Jorge Antun is expected at Continassa this week. Dybala is a central profile in the Juventus attack, but as we speak his contract expires in June 2022 and he could end up leaving on a free transfer next summer. Juventus also have players like Juan Cuadrado and Federico Bernardeschi on expiring deals.

Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli) – The 30-year-old reportedly doesn’t want to take the proposed pay cut offered by President Aurelio De Laurentiis and the captain could be playing his last season with the Partenopei. Insigne extended with a five-year deal in April 2017, but has not negotiated new terms until now, struggling to reach an agreement with the Azzurri. Inter are reportedly one of the possible suitors, should Insigne become available on a free transfer next summer. Dries Mertens is also on an expiring contract, but is expected to leave the Partenopei next summer, while Adam Ounas’ deal could be extended as Napoli decided to keep the winger.

Marcelo Brozovic (Inter) – But the Nerazzurri have some contractual situations to sort out themselves, as they have reached an agreement with Lautaro Martinez and are working to renew with Croatia international Brozovic. The 28-year-old has yet to sign a new deal but is expected to sign a new deal this year. If his demands are not met by the club, Inter risk losing the influential midfielder without a transfer fee next summer.

Lorenzo Pellegrini (Roma) – New coach Jose Mourinho wants Pellegrini to renew as soon as possible and highlighted the importance of the Giallorossi captain. Pellegrini has taken the captaincy at Roma and is a key member at the Olimpico, but his status beyond June 2022 is still not certain. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is another starter who only has a one-year contract ahead of 2021-22.

Andrea Belotti (Torino) – The Torino captain was linked with a move away from the club this summer, but President Urbano Cairo still wanted a hefty fee for the Italy international. Belotti has received an offer from the Granata, but his future is not resolved, as he has not signed the contract offer.

Jeremie Boga (Sassuolo) – The Ivorian seemed set to leave the Mapei Stadium this month, but remained with the Neroverdi, who now have to find a way to convince the forward about renewing his deal in Reggio-Emilia. If not, the former Chelsea man will most likely move when his deal expires next year. Filip Djuricic is another key member of the Neroverdi squad on an expiring deal.

Luiz Felipe (Lazio) – Maurizio Sarri relies on the Brazilian defender, but his future with the Aquile is not resolved. The 24-year-old’s future is more and more uncertain for every month without a renewal and Luiz Felipe could be a target for big clubs looking to make a coup in 2022. Thomas Strakosha and Adam Marusic are other players at Lazio on expiring deals.

Remo Freuler (Atalanta) – The Swiss midfielder has turned 29 and could be looking for a new challenge elsewhere, and next year could be the time to move on. Freuler has been an integral part in a successful Atalanta side, but he has not renewed beyond June 2022 with the Orobici and this could be his last season in Bergamo.
