Roma coach Paulo Fonseca prepares for the biggest game of the year, as he targets a place in the Champions League and an automatic renewal.

Ajax arrive at the Olimpico for the second leg in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, with Roma 2-1 up from the first leg in Amsterdam.

The Giallorossi are unbeaten in three games and a place among the last four in the European Cup could spur them on during the run-in in Serie A too.

But with a seven-point gap up to Atalanta at fourth in the League, the Europa League could be the last chance of securing a place in the Champions League next term.

Fonseca reportedly has a clause in his contract with La Lupa, where a place in the Champions League would automatically renew his deal with a further year in the Italian capital.

Rumours in Italy have suggested the management at Trigoria have already started looking for a new coach and have contacted the former Juventus coaches Max Allegri and Maurizio Sarri.

Fonseca is focused on the big game against the Dutch giants tonight, aiming to bring Roma to their first European Final since 1991.

Calciomercato.com reports the Giallorossi have decided to part ways with Fonseca at the end of the season, when the Portuguese coach’s contract expires.

And the report claims Sarri, who picked up the Scudetto with Juventus in 2019-20 and the Europa League with Chelsea in 2018-19, is in pole position for the job in Rome. But Allegri has also been mentioned as a possible replacement for Fonseca.
