“I just wanted to clarify that I have decided not to take part in the Copa America because I don’t want to go there just to take advantage of a professional opportunity,” wrote the 26-year-old on social media.
 
“I will certainly get to know Peru and only then will I truly understand what the Blanquiroja shirt means.”
 
Lapadula is at the centre of a bidding war with clubs including Napoli, Juventus, Lazio and Leicester City interested.
 
He confirmed a few weeks ago that he had received a call from Peru, but nobody from the Italian national team had approached him.
