Sevilla winger Erik Lamela admits he loves Roma but didn’t expect to win his first trophy against his former club.

Sevilla beat Roma on penalties in the Europa League Final in Budapest on Wednesday. It is the first major trophy for Lamela, a former Roma and Tottenham winger who worked with José Mourinho in North London.

“I think it was a very difficult game against my former club. I love them, but this is football. It’s the first title I’ve won. It’s against Roma and I didn’t expect it, honestly. I am so thrilled,” Lamela told DAZN.

“We made it, we knew it was a difficult game. It was long, maybe not our best game, but we deserved it for the efforts we’ve made this season and the previous games we won.”
