Lecce and above all Gustaf Lagerbielke are irritated by Celtic suddenly putting the brakes on his transfer. ‘I dreamed of Serie A since I was a kid.’

According to Sky Sport Italia, the two clubs were in the process of exchanging contracts this evening when Celtic pulled the plug.

The Scottish side were seemingly worried about weakening the squad when fellow central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers sustained an injury that might be more serious than previously thought.

Lecce are waiting impatiently for developments, but it is Lagerbielke himself who seems the most frustrated by the situation.

“Lecce showed such a strong interest in me. I want to go there, play and make the difference,” the Sweden international told Tuttomercatoweb.

“All players dream of the big leagues. And I have dreamed of playing in Serie A since I was a kid. I also know that many Scandinavian players have been at Lecce, so that would be an advantage in helping me settle.”

The 23-year-old centre-back has two senior caps for Sweden, scoring one goal, and made the transfer from Elfborg to Celtic in August 2023 for €3.4m.

He was set to join Lecce on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Lecce announced this evening that they have officially signed 19-year-old midfielder Enes Yilmaz from Bayer Leverkusen.
