Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s future was the biggest matter of debate during Antonio Conte’s unveiling press conference, during which Aurelio De Laurentiis blamed ‘the ECA President’ for contacting Kvara without Napoli’s consent.
Napoli are determined to keep their star Kvaratskhelia at the Stadio Maradona beyond the summer, even if the winger’s agent has openly asked to leave the club.
New Napoli coach Conte faced several questions about the Georgian winger during his unveiling press conference today and insisted that Kvara will remain at the Stadio Maradona.
Aurelio De Laurentiis insisted that there are “no problems” with the Georgian ace, who has a long-term contract with the Partenopei, but he also blamed PSG and their President Nasser Al Khelaifi for contacting Kvara without talking to Napoli.
Kvaratskhelia’s Napoli future takes centre stage at Conte’s unveiling as ADL blames PSG
ADL first said that “somebody” offered a contract to the player without the club’s authorisation and then added: “One could call to order, especially because the ECA President is part of that club. However, I am 75, and nothing really surprises me in terms of who is fair or unfair. I always try to be fair as I’ve been taught.”
Reports in Italy have suggested that PSG offered Kvara a €9m-a-year contract.
The winger’s deal at the Stadio Maradona expires in June 2027 and De Laurentiis said he’ll offer the 23-year-old a new deal.
Conte added that Kvaratskhelia will surely stay at the club in 2024-25, given that there are “fewer and fewer players” with his skill sets.
