Marash Kumbulla thanked the Roma fans for their support after he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in their draw with Milan.

The 23-year-old Albanian centre back was forced off the pitch after just 15 minutes following his serious knee injury, an issue that will keep him on the sidelines for a number of months. A round of medical tests will be carried out in the coming days to determine the seriousness of his injury.

Kumbulla has struggled for consistent minutes under Jose Mourinho this season, seeing just 261 minutes of action across seven Serie A matches for Roma.

Writing on his social media pages, Kumbulla opened up about his injury and thanked the Roma fans for their support.

“It is difficult to find words to describe the situation I find myself in. The season did not go as I would have wished and ended in the worst possible way for an athlete. I am very disappointed and will need time to heal and to be able to play again.

“I will use this time to come back even stronger and to change things, I assure you. Thank you all for the messages and good luck to my teammates and the whole Roma team for the rest of the season. It’s not over yet. Daje Roma!”

The 23-year-old Kumbulla could now be sidelined for the rest of 2023, depending on the severity of his ligament injury. His contract expires with Roma in the summer of 2025.
