Juraj Kucka is confident Milan can finish third this season but “we have to take it a game at a time”.

The Rossoneri have put together an impressive series of results to put themselves back in contention for a Champions League place, having started the season poorly.

“Third place? We’ll definitely try,” Kucka told Milan Channel.

“We can do it, but we have to take it a game at a time. We have a great desire to achieve our goal, which is to get back into Europe.

“We can do it, but we have to take it a game at a time. We have a great desire to achieve our goal, which is to get back into Europe.

“Everyone in the team has that desire. In the first half of the season we lacked consistency. After the derby [with Inter] we gained great confidence.

“We’ve improved a lot in recent games.”

The Slovakian international arrived from Genoa this summer, and admits he was surprised the move came about.

“There was often talk of me going to a big club, but it always ended up just being rumours.

“It eventually happened last summer, and I was very happy, Milan were always my favourite team as a child.

“Life is strange, everything happened very quickly. I was going to go to Turkey, and instead I got to come here. I’m very happy.

“I’m the first Slovak to wear this shirt. Milan have a big following in Slovakia, they have a lot of fans.

Napoli’s Marek Hamsik? Sometimes we talk.

“Is he afraid of Milan’s rebirth? I don’t think they’re afraid of anything right now!”
