Former Ajax and Napoli defender Ruud Krol believes Luciano Spalletti’s men ‘play the best football in Europe’ but warns the Partenopei about Mohammed Kudus.

Napoli will face Ajax away in the third match of the Champions League Group A tomorrow.

“It’s going to be thrilling. Obviously, I will be at the Johan Cruijff Arena, but don’t ask me who I will support. I will watch the game as a neutral fan and it doesn’t often happen when I watch Ajax,” the former defender told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Krol spent four years at Napoli between 1980 and 1984, after marking history with Ajax where he won – among other things – nine Dutch leagues and three Champions League.

The Lancers were held to a 1-1 draw by Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday, seeing AZ leapfrog them at the top of the Eredivisie.

“It wasn’t the same Ajax. they dominated possession but didn’t convert it into goal-scoring opportunities,” said Krol.

“They conceded from the only shot on target. However, Napoli should keep an eye on Kadus, he is the new Ajax starlet, he can play as a Trequartista or as a striker without differences. He is being very consistent despite his age.

“I like the Azzurri, they prove solidity week in, week out and it wasn’t something to take for granted after all the changes this summer,” Krol continued.

“I watch Serie A games, but also other clubs in Europe and I can say that no team plays better football than Napoli in Italy and abroad. They were exciting to watch in the past, but now there is something special. A winning attitude that I had never seen in the past.”

The Partenopei are the Serie A leaders along with Atalanta, the only two unbeaten teams in Italy. They have also won their opening Champions League games against Liverpool and Rangers.
