There will be no Serie A return for former Inter man Mateo Kovacic, who appears set to join Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea from Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old has been linked with the likes of Milan and Napoli, as well as a return to the Nerazzurri, during the course of the summer.

However, Marca reports that an agreement has been reached that will see the midfielder head to Stamford Bridge on loan.

The Spanish daily states that the deal could even be officially announced in the next few hours.

Kovacic has been unhappy at the lack of first-team football on offer during his time at the Spanish capital and has reportedly been refusing to train in pre-season.

Now, he appears set to be granted his wish of leaving the Bernabeu in search of regular game time.

And he may not be the only Croatian on his way out of the club, with Luka Modric due for showdown talks with Real President Florentino Perez tomorrow.

Just days ago, Madrid Coach Julen Lopetegui insisted neither player would be going anywhere during this transfer window.

But with Kovacic going to London and Modric heavily linked with Inter, the opposite appears to be the case.
