Inter chief Erick Thohir has again confirmed that Mateo Kovacic is a key part of the club’s future.

The 20-year-old was signed in January 2013 after a €15m deal was agreed between the Italian club and Dinamo Zagreb.

The midfielder’s future, though, has been placed into some doubt given his difficulties at the Stadio Meazza.

“Kovacic is untouchable, he is not for sale,” the Indonesian businessman noted. “He is very important for us and he will remain at Inter.”

The Nerazzurri have found life tough in recent seasons, but Thohir insists the changes that have been made will pay off in the future.

“Inter’s top priority is to return to being one of the top 10 clubs in the world game,” Thohir continued.

“In order to do that, we have to increase our revenue by creating a more solid relationship with our fans.”

Asked about the summer transfer session, he replied: “We lowered the average age of the squad and we reduced the size of our squad.”
