Former Juventus striker Darko Kovacevic believes Dusan Vlahovic ‘can become one of the best in the world’ following his recent explosive form in Turin.

The 24-year-old Serbian forward has started to look a player worthy of an €80m price tag in recent weeks, scoring 10 goals in his last nine Serie A matches, only failing to net against Inter and Roma. After a quiet first half of the season, he’s finally started to find a rhythm in the Piedmont capital.

There has been doubts about the suitability of Vlahovic at Juventus, with some believing he should be sold in the summer to allow for reinvestments, but his recent work may be enough to convince his doubters.

Speaking on page 21 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport, Kovacevic was first asked if anything about Vlahovic’s recent form at Juventus was surprising him.

“No, because this is Dusan. He is – and has always been – a great striker, he just needed to find his best form. His talent has never been in question. We are talking about a young but complete centre forward.

“Simply, he’s been going through a spectacular state of form since January and the many goals he’s scored are the natural consequence of that. I’m convinced and hope that this is only the start, Vlahovic is very strong and will score a lot for Juventus in the coming years.”

He touched on the comparisons between Vlahovic and Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

“I remain convinced that Dusan can become one of the best centre forwards in the world. Yes, just like Haaland.”

Finally, Kovacevic was asked if Vlahovic can realistically hope to finish the season with 25 league goals.

“Why not? If he maintains this form, I think Dusan can even score 10 goals between now and the end.”
