Kalidou Koulibaly is close to joining Chelsea from Napoli and the Blues are expected to finalise the deal today. Check out today’s live updates and reactions.
The Senegal captain is on the verge of moving to Stamford Bridge for €40m and according to Sky Sport, the two clubs will finalise the deal today.
Koulibaly confirmed on Tuesday, that negotiations with the Premier League giants are at the final stages.
Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti refused to rule out that the defender and designated captain is likely to leave.
Club director Cristiano Giuntoli said last weekend that the club was ready to offer Koulibaly a new €6m-a-year contract as his current deal is due to expire next summer.
Spalletti had planned to give the experienced defender the captain’s armband for 2022-23 following the departure of Lorenzo Insigne.
Koulibaly was Juventus’ No.1 target to strengthen their defence, but the Old Lady will have to look elsewhere now.
The 31-year-old joined Napoli in a €7.7m deal from Genk in the summer of 2014. He has played 317 games with the Partenopei.
