Kalidou Koulibaly says Napoli have a long way to go before they can consider themselves Scudetto contenders.

The Partenopei have won their first seven matches of the Serie A season, having beaten Cagliari 3-0 this afternoon.

Speaking post-match, however, the Senegalese defender insisted that seven matches are ‘nothing’ in the context of a full League season.

“We go game by game,” Koulibaly explained. “We’ve done well in these first seven matches and we want to continue like that.

Speaking post-match, however, the Senegalese defender insisted that seven matches are ‘nothing’ in the context of a full League season.

“We go game by game,” Koulibaly explained. “We’ve done well in these first seven matches and we want to continue like that.

“Today we played well despite the early kick-off. We kept going until the end, got the goals and we are happy.

“We want to keep going like this. Seven games are nothing because the League is a marathon.

“All matches are different, we need to go game by game and then see where we are in March or April.”

The 26-year-old added that boss Maurizio Sarri was delighted by his side keeping a clean sheet.

“The boss doesn’t want us to concede goals and today we managed to do that well.

“We let in a stupid goal on Tuesday in the Champions League and we need to concentrate until the end.

“For us it is important not to concede goals. When it happens the Coach gets angry and we try to make him pleased.”

Koulibaly, who scored one of Napoli’s three goals today, praised fellow marksman Dries Mertens as belonging to a ‘different class.’

“Mertens is of a different class, he is difficult to mark.

“Even if you train every day, he always comes up with something new. He is very important for us.”
