The Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella confirms he is trying to set up a meeting between Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and the Fiorentina fan who shouted racist abuse.

Following the incident at the Stadio Franchi, Koulibaly expressed a desire to meet with the person who had made racist insults towards him and try to understand what had prompted such horrific behaviour.

The supporter has been identified and given a five-year ban from stadiums using a Daspo order, while the FIGC investigation is continuing separately for any sporting punishment.

“We have made contact with the young fan and his lawyer, so I hope that we can organise this meeting,” confirmed Mayor of Florence Nardella.

“I am working hard to make it happen, as the meeting between Koulibaly and the fan would be a great message of maturity and civility.

“I thank both Fiorentina and Napoli, who sent repeated messages of their efforts to fight racism. We must remove racism from stadiums forever, and I hope a gesture like the meeting would help too.”
