Kalidou Koulibaly touched on the initial difficulties with Chelsea after making his €40m move from Napoli.

The 31-year-old Senegalese centre back grew into one of the best defenders in the world during his eight-year spell with Napoli before making the jump to the Premier League in the summer. Since his arrival, Koulibaly has made six appearances across all competitions with Chelsea, scoring a memorable goal in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Speaking to Quotidien, Koulibaly reflected on his decision to leave Napoli for Chelsea in the summer.

“Chelsea came and it didn’t take me long to choose. They are one of the five best clubs in the world, with a great history, a team used to winning. Signing with Chelsea was a great thing for me. I am very happy to be here in London.

“At the beginning it was a bit hard, because I had to move eight years of my life to London. It is something that is quite difficult.”

The 31-year-old Koulibaly was a core player during his time with Napoli, being a rock at the centre of their defence. He made 317 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring 14 goals and providing nine assists.

The Senegalese centre back was a part of the team that won a Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in the Campania capital.
