The forward was on international duty with the Ivory Coast Under-23 team against South Africa when he was stretchered off with a knee injury.

Tests today confirmed he has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, which means five to six months on the sidelines.

“I have always been accustomed to facing every situation with a smile,” wrote Kouame on Instagram.

“The good times, those worth remembering, but also the most difficult to deal with, just like this. It’s true, I could’ve done without this happening.

“However, that is what I am like, so I respond to this injury with a smile, already starting to count down the days, and with real hunger to get back out there. Stronger than ever!
