Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners will be returning to Bergamo earlier than expected, as he has withdrawn from the Netherlands national team squad with injury.

As Per reports from Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, the 25-year-old arrived at the Oranje training camp carrying an injury and a quick assessment has ruled that he will not be able to feature in the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against France and Greece.

Koopmeiners has featured in all three of Atalanta’s most recent matches, including as a starter in the 0-0 draw against Juventus and the 2-1 win over Sporting in the Champions League, as well as coming off the bench against Lazio in Sunday evening’s 3-2 loss.

In fact, the loss against Lazio was the only time so far this season that Koopmeiners ha not started under Gian Piero Gasperini this season.

Last season, the Dutchman made 33 appearances in Serie A, only missing a period of four matches through injury on top of a one-game suspension having picked up seven yellow cards.

It has not yet been confirmed how long Koopmeiners is expected to be unavailable for Atalanta.
