Teun Koopmeiners has explained that his best position is in a midfield role with attacking freedom, but he has said that he wants to ‘expand’ his versatility now that he is working under Thiago Motta at Juventus.
The Dutchman sat down for his first Juventus press conference on Tuesday as part of his official presentation following his €60m move from Atalanta earlier in the summer.
Koopmeiners on his best role and hopes to evolve
During his chat with the press, Koopmeiners explained which position he feels suits him most naturally.
“Since arriving in Italy, I’ve played in a variety of positions, but my favourite role is definitely as a midfielder,” the 26-year-old said.
“I’m eager to expand my versatility on the field and continue developing into an even more complete player. Right now, my role is to play behind the strikers, and I’m doing well in that position.
Juventus have plenty of competition in the advanced midfield role, as Kenan Yildiz was rewarded with a new and improved contract, and was handed the iconic no.10 shirt earlier this summer.
The Bianconeri have also added Douglas Luiz to their ranks this summer, who often starred in a slightly more advanced midfield role during his time in the Premier League with Aston Villa.
Yildiz has been the preferred option in the trequartista role so far this season, flanked by Samuel Mbangula to his left and either Timothy Weah or Andrea Cambiaso to his right.
