Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners was positive when discussing the team’s possible Scudetto bid this season, believing ‘anything can happen’.

The Bergamo outfit currently sit second in the Serie A table after 10 games, being only two points behind league leaders Napoli. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are still undefeated this season and have only dropped points in draws with Udinese, Cremonese and Milan

Atalanta are not competing in European competition this season, allowing them to rest a little more than their opponents at the top of the table.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Koopmeiners discussed Atalanta’s goals for this season and if they believe in winning the Scudetto.

“Why not? We are just at the beginning and anything can happen. Any athlete if things are going well tends to look up and not down. But it is also true that there are better equipped teams.

“We must try to the end to achieve a return to Europe. Possibly in the Champions League, because it has a different flavour.”

The 24-year-old Koopmeiners has made 10 Serie A appearances this season, playing every available minute under Gasperini. In that time, he has scored four goals and provided one assist, playing a key role in front of the defence. His contract expires with the club in 2025.
